We are pleased to announce the deployment of X-Guide to deliver the most precise dental implant placement to compliment our dental partner's restorative work and ensure a better final outcome for our patients. Dr. Chang is the first and only doctor in the greater San Diego area to utilize this cutting-edge technology.  X-Guide from X-Nav Technologies is a revolutionary 3-D dynamic navigation system that synchronizes the patient's CBCT and surgical plan utilizing a patient tracking device to provide real time positioning of the implant drill for precise control over position, depth, and angulation of implant placement.

The new X-Guide provides an extra layer of safety for our patients since critical structures such as the inferior alveolar nerve and maxillary sinus can be seen in real time as the osteotomy for implant placement is performed. Studies have shown greater accuracy of implant placement when dynamic placement is used compared to the use of traditional surgical methodologies. What is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon?

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are dental specialists who are trained to treat disorders of the jaws and related facial structures. Prior to becoming an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, one must first complete dental school and receive a doctorate degree in dentistry (D.D.S.). An oral and maxillofacial surgeon must then complete either a four-year or six-year accredited residency program to become a certified specialist. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon who completes a six-year program will have  received a medical degree by completing medical school, and will have completed a one-year medical internship (usually in general surgery).

The scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery practice includes the diagnosis and medical or surgical management of diseases, injuries, and  structural abnormalities of the jaws and related facial structures. The range of treatment that an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon can provide depends on his level of training and experience.

Our office offers the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery utilizing state-of-the-art technology and pain management techniques to expertly remove wisdom teeth, place implants with precision, and perform skillful dental extractions in addition to sophisticated maxillofacial surgeries such as jaw and facial reconstruction.

Our surgeons have successfully completed a 6-year accredited Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training program and are licensed physicians and dentists. They are board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery which is the only specialty board in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery that is recognized by the American Dental Association.
